Partners
Community Partners
Innovative partnerships are the cornerstone of a community dedicated to ending intimate partner abuse and sexual violence. The Center for Women and Families is proud to cultivate, build, and sustain these featured collaborations—and many more.
Lethality Assessment Program
In partnership with Louisville Metro Police Department, City of Hillview Police, and Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office
To help prevent intimate partner violence-related homicides, The Center works closely with local law enforcement. Through our training, officers responding to domestic violence calls use a lethality screening tool to assess the victim’s risk of being killed by their abuser. If the victim “screens in,” they are immediately connected to our counselors for shelter and safety planning services.
Louisville SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Exams) Clinic
In partnership with University Hospital
Located on our Joan E. Thomas, M.D. Campus, Louisville’s first community-based SAFE Clinic provides survivors of sexual assault with compassionate, confidential care in a quiet, private setting. Clinical staff from University Hospital deliver essential forensic and medical services, while our advocates offer emotional support, clarity on available options, and a steady presence throughout the process.
Safe Haven for Pets
In Partnership with the Kentucky Humane Society
For many survivors, pets are more than companions—they are sources of comfort, stability, and unconditional love. Unfortunately, abusers often exploit this bond by threatening or harming animals to maintain control. This fear can make it even harder for survivors to leave. Through the Safe Haven for Pets program, The Center provides temporary kenneling at our shelter until the Kentucky Humane Society places pets in foster homes for the duration of a survivor’s stay in our residential program.
Ride to Safety
In partnership with the Transit Authority of River City
Leaving an abusive relationship can be dangerous. Our partnership with TARC offers a discreet and secure transportation option. When a passenger tells a bus driver, “I need a ride to safety,” the driver alerts TARC headquarters, triggering a coordinated response to ensure the individual reaches our shelter safely.
