About Us
The Center for Women and Families provides help for anyone who has experienced intimate partner violence or sexual assault, whether this happened recently or years ago. We also support friends and family members of survivors. Our services are free, safe and confidential.
Our History
The Center for Women and Families’ proud history of helping people in need dates back to 1912, when it opened its doors as part of the YWCA in downtown Louisville. The Center initially worked to empower families and women by helping them with job training and finding employment.
In 1975, The Center began providing services to survivors of sexual assault. The Center opened a shelter for domestic violence survivors in 1977.
Now, after a century of existence, The Center continues its mission, expanding and improving to offer a full range of services 24/7 to help all survivors of intimate partner abuse and sexual assault, as well as family, friends, and partners close to survivors.
