Training: Recognizing and Responding to Domestic Violence

Training description: In this training, you will discuss definitions and dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as the impacts of domestic violence and sexual assault on your clients’ wellness and safety. You will learn and practice skills for responding to clients who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault. You will also discuss your legal and professional responsibilities when you receive a disclosure of abuse, and fulfilling this responsibility with trauma-informed advocacy.

Target audience: social workers, therapists, counselors, and other practitioners working with individuals and families affected by intimate partner violence
Level: introductory to intermediate
Learning objectives & outcomes: This workshop will
1. Develop participants’ understanding of and ability to identify intimate partner and sexual violence
2. Build participants’ ability to communicate effectively with victims of intimate partner and sexual violence
3. Increase awareness of support services available to individuals and families impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence
Refund/cancellation policy: Cancellations received up to 2 business days in advance of the training date are eligible for a full refund of the registration fee. No-shows are not eligible for a refund.
CEUs: the registration fee for this training includes 4.0 social work continuing education units (CEUs). Participants will receive a certificate verifying completion. The Center for Women and Families is approved by the Kentucky Board of Social Work to sponsor continuing education for credential holders. The Center maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
