Training: Recognizing and Responding to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault- What Service Providers Need to Know

Training description: In this training, you will discuss definitions and dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as the impacts of domestic violence and sexual assault on your clients’ wellness and safety. You will learn and practice skills for responding to clients who have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault. You will also discuss your responsibilities as a mandatory reporter of abuse, and balancing this responsibility with trauma-informed advocacy.

Target audience: social workers, therapists, counselors, and other practitioners working with individuals and families affected by intimate partner violence

Level: introductory to intermediate

Learning objectives & outcomes: This workshop will

1. Develop participants’ understanding of and ability to identify intimate partner and sexual violence
2. Build participants’ ability to communicate effectively with victims of intimate partner and sexual violence
3. Increase awareness of support services available to individuals and families impacted by intimate partner and sexual violence
