| Established in 1975, the Rape Crisis Program
began out of a growing community need to assist victims
of rape or sexual assault. Often, the first step toward
healing begins with an advocate from The Center meeting with
a victim at the hospital. Beyond the initial hospital visit,
The Center provides counseling and support
groups not only to rape victims, but also to their friends
and families. We help victims rebuild
their lives and become survivors.
Call Toll Free (877) 803-7577 for immediate help 24 hours
a day.
Outside of The Center's 14 county service area, call (800)
656-HOPE to be connected to the nearest Rape Crisis Center.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
(SANE) Clinic
The SANE clinic provides immediate, confidential services
for sexual assault victims and is housed in The Center's
Joan E. Thomas, M.D. campus. The clinic negates the need
for long waits in an emergency room, and all services are
provided by a registered nurse who has completed specialized
training in the care and treatment of sexual assault victims.
Hospital Advocacy
Trained staff and volunteer advocates meet victims of rape
at local hospitals to provide information about the medical
examination and options about available resources, and offer
follow-up assistance. All local metro area hospitals in
Jefferson County, Clark Memorial, Floyd Memorial, Harrison
County Hospital and Scott County Hospital provide hospital
advocates for victims. If you go to a hospital that does
not provide advocates, call The Center at (877) 803-7577
to request one.
Therapy and Counseling
Trained caseworkers and therapists work with individuals
and family members to work through the trauma of being the
primary or secondary victim of rape.
Support Groups
Support groups are available for survivors of rape (ages
adolescent to adult) and for parents, partners and friends
of rape survivors.
Walk-in Crisis Counseling
Available 24 hours a day at the Kentucky and Southern Indiana
Campuses.
Court Advocacy
Court advocates are available for individuals who choose
to report to the police and/or proceed with prosecution.
Advocates accompany survivors to all legal proceedings including
interviews, depositions, and court hearings. The trained
advocates are there to provide emotional support and vital
information.
Community Education and Professional Training
Trained professional educators give information and educational
presentations to local schools, day care centers, universities,
community organizations, and agencies. Training is provided
on issues including rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment,
and focuses on victimization, victim sensitivity, symptoms
and myths. Presentation are given to groups such as Law
Enforcement Officers, Prosecutors, Teachers, Hospital Staff,
Dispatchers and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Call The Center at (502) 581-7239 to schedule a training
session.
